President’s Letter – July 2016
Dear Business Colleagues and Neighbors,
“Summer breeze makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.” – Seals and Croft
It’s official… Summer has arrived! I can’t think of a better place to spend summer days than Long Island. We all have different definitions of a perfect weekend. Whether it’s chilling in a lounge chair by a pool or beach (my personal favorite), boating, a car or motorcycle ride out east, there’s so much to do here. Take advantage before the cold weather settles in!
The Chamber had the pleasure of awarding four scholarships to Sachem and Connetquot seniors at our June meeting. The scholarship luncheon was held at Smokey Bones, as their proud parents stood by. Many elected officials attended to congratulate the honorees. There’s no doubt in my mind that these students will be highly successful. We wish those students, and all the graduates of 2016 the best of luck. Do well in whatever field you go into and hopefully you will return/stay on Long Island. We need you! Thanks go to Kevin Hyms and the Scholarship Committee for all their help with this event.
Congratulations to Maddison Dailey! The Chamber wanted to update our Chamber logo to include different elements of our town .. the Lake, airport, railroad, Indian, greenery. So we reached out to the two local High Schools and asked the Chairpersons/Directors of the Art Departments to see if the students wanted to participate in a logo contest for the Ronkonkoma Chamber. We received a total of 32 entries from Sachem North and Connetquot High Schools and Maddison’s design won unanimously. Madison is a 9th grade student from Connetquot HS. Also a special thanks to Ms. Stasi and Maureen Hines for their help in putting together this competition.
The Chamber has outdone itself with Summer Community Events. Make a note to save these dates:
Sunday, August 14th – Ronkonkoma Celebrity Softball
To Benefit “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”
Sunday, September 4th. Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce
10th Annual Mega Street Fair

One Last Thing

That’s it for now. Enjoy summer …. Be careful on the water, don’t drink and drive, wear sunscreen and most of all have FUN!
